Darrell was always very kind to me and was a fun guy to be around. I liked him a lot.  He always made me feel welcome.  His personality reminded me of Joe Ben Stamper, a character from the book Sometimes a Great Notion, about a logging family in Oregon. He's up in heaven's bar, I'm sure there's one there. 

Darrell was so much fun, I especially remember the family at Lake St. Francis and all the fun we had on Friday nights as 12-year-olds. Hiding our cigarettes in the trees by the lake, playing kissing games with all the kids in the neighborhood, dancing. The good days at the lake. After he went off to Ocean Falls, I lost touch with Darrell, but a great, fun-loving guy. 

time goes by so quickly...one year tomorrow. i feel your presence every day...some amazing experiences and lessons. i love you so much. forever. the dimes have been plentiful and always seem to appear when re-assurance is needed...thank you for that. the kids feel your presence as well and it is comforting. we all love you...forever.

I went Kayaking on Darrell's birthday at a wondeful lake close to Kamloops.  The day was amazing 30 degrees Oct 1st! Hit record highs! The water was so calm and there was a beautiful big dragonfly - following me the whole trip, sitting on my shoulder, on the boat, buzzing around.  I thought this was Darrell coming to visit - he loved the water. It was a great day -peaceful out in nature - a wondeful way to celebrate Darrell's Day

It has been many years and many miles since we were neighbours in Lachine, but I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to Gloria and Laura and all the Saggo family members...

On the lighter side:
We had a lot of fun growing up and played quite a few jokes on each other. 
Whenever Darrell was driving the boat when I was waterskiing he would search high and low to spot a dead eel then strategically slow the boat down so that I would fall on a the slimy dead eel.

Darrell was our best friend. Some of the greatest times of our lives were spent with him in Lachine and St-Anicet and we have so many wonderful amazing memories. Our lives were richer and definitely more fun because he was a part of them and he'll be in our hearts forever. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Everyone has their memories of Darrell Saggo .. I am an older cousin only 5 years older than him but I remember when we were kids how I enjoyed going up to uncle Henry's cottage in the summer... waterskiing and swimming .. and hanging around with the gang. I hadn't seen Darrell since his father died over 25 years ago.. as their family moved west and created lives of their own... now he's gone and the stories remain... we will remember him as a brother... my condolences to Evelyne and her family.. Cousin Steve LeBlanc ..

You'll always be the cool uncle that played guitar, football and was tough as nails. Keep on Rockin' up there Uncle D.

As his younger sister, I will miss him very much. We had lots of fun growing up and I looked up to him.  I remember how " cool" I thought he was with his motocycle and karate.  I noticed Linda wrote a note - Seems like yesterday when we would all be up at St Anicet and the parties at the cottage. I can see all of his old friends - Brennans, Hendershot. I remember meeting all his Lachine friends and cooking up food for them when he had his parties. My friend Heather and I would cook up anything and Darrell would eat it after school.  Great appetite! Darrell had lots of friends always coming and going... and so full of life.  He was  great at waterskiing and even jumped back into a motor boat while it was still going...... he had the scars to prove it!  He loved his life in Ocean Falls and was so lucky to meet Evelyn and her childen over 20 years ago. He enjoyed being a grandfather and was so good with the kids. Evelyn has been an amazing partner  and I am so thankful she loved and cared for Darrell till the end. We will all miss Darrell and be thankful for all the great memories.  We are having a memorial for Darrell in Gold River on Sept 20th.  If you have anything you want to share you can email me at laurakalina@telus.net  and I will share at the memorial.

Darrell was my first real love. At 18, we thought we'd live forever. He was quite the hunk, such a nice guy, so filled with adventure. 

I hope he lived a happy life and was loved until the end. I'll never forget him.
