Mark was born on June 8, 1946, in Victoria, BC, to Cecil Reginald James and Esther Ernestine Dicker, and grew up in Colwood. As a young man, Mark proudly served in the Canadian Air Force before building a life centred on craftsmanship, family, faith, and rural living.
A carpenter and mason by trade, Mark built several homes throughout his life, including family homes in Nanoose Bay and Black Creek, as well as others in Gold River, BC. His craftsmanship can still be seen in Gold River through his homebuilding and masonry, including the Gold River Golf Clubhouse.
A devoted Christian, Mark found great joy in his church community. He loved beekeeping, gardening, singing in the choir, volunteering at the local kitchen, and giving his time wherever he could help. Later in life, he found purpose and peace through his faith, artwork, bow making, and conversation.
Mark was predeceased by his sister, Joy Doner; brother, Jan James; and nephew, Christian Doner.
He is lovingly remembered by his children, Brianna Boggs (Jonathan), Ashleigh Slobodan (Tyler), and Joshua James (Dianne); grandchildren, Haedyn, Emma, Avery, Alex, Crosby, Wyatt, Ronin, and Edson; brother, Ted James; nieces and nephews, Willow, Natasha, Mathew, Nina, and Sarah; and many extended family members and friends.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Quadra Island Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion in Heriot Bay. All are welcome.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Matthew 25:21
