It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ronald Gale Neufeld, age 60, of Campbell River, British Columbia who passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on August 2, 2025, ten months after his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
Born on January 12, 1965, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Ron was the son of Helen Neufeld and the late Herman Neufeld. He spent his formative years in both Manitoba and Saskatchewan, where his creativity and determination began to take shape. Ron pursued his calling in engineering, beginning with a Diploma of Technology from Saskatchewan Technical Institute in 1985, followed by a Bachelor’s of Applied Science from the University of Regina in 1997. He later earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Victoria in 2019, reflecting his lifelong commitment to public service.
In 1986, Ron married his high school sweetheart, Brenda Neufeld (née Jensen). Their 39-year marriage was filled with laughter, commitment, travel, and above all, deep love. The couple moved to Campbell River in 1992, where they raised their two children, Nigel and Alexa. As a father and husband, Ron was devoted, kind, and endlessly supportive.
Ron enjoyed a nearly 30-year career serving the City of Campbell River. Starting as an engineering technician, he steadily advanced his career to retire in 2022 as Deputy City Manager. His impact on the community was far-reaching. He played a pivotal role in improving local infrastructure, championed environmental stewardship, and led the negotiations of complex municipal agreements with integrity and vision.
Ron was a man of many interests. He had a lifelong love of cars, whether it was restoring, maintaining, or simply admiring them, he found joy in every detail. A true hands-on person, he was always working on a project, whether around the house, the yard, in the garage, or helping friends and family. Ron was deeply dedicated to supporting his children’s passions and took great pride in cheering them on, no matter the path they chose. He also loved to travel, especially to warm destinations where he could relax, recharge, and soak up the sun.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda; his children, Nigel Neufeld and Alexa Neufeld; his mother, Helen Neufeld; his sisters, Janet Dick and Colleen Neufeld; and many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his father, Herman Neufeld.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Campbell River Baptist Church. A tea in the foyer will follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to a community resource, the Canadian Cancer Society or Pancreatic Cancer Canada.
Ron’s life was a gift to all who knew him and will continue to inspire us. A man of integrity, generosity, and a strength that came from a foundation of faith. Even in his diagnosis, he reasoned it a blessing, an opportunity to reflect fully, and to express love and appreciation to those closest to him. He will be deeply missed.
