Steve Hanna passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026, at the age of 69. He was a deeply loving husband, a devoted father, and a proud grandfather and "Papa" whose warmth, guidance, and wonderful sense of humor will be forever missed.
Steve was a man of great energy and passion, with a deep love for the outdoors. An avid runner, he took great pride in competing in local traditions like the Snow to Surf and The Great Walk. He found true peace in nature, challenging himself by climbing the Comox Glacier and Mt. Albert Edward, and successfully completing the rugged West Coast Trail multiple times. He also loved spending time at the cabin on Village Bay Lake—fishing, canoeing, and simply being with friends and family. Following his retirement, Steve channeled his competitive spirit into golf, becoming an active player and even winning best golfer in his age group. When he wasn't outdoors or on the green, he could often be found cheering passionately for his favorite NFL team, the Seattle Seahawks.
Above all his hobbies and achievements, Steve’s absolute greatest joy in life was his family. He was happiest when surrounded by the love and laughter of those he held dear.
Steve was predeceased by his beloved eldest son, Clayton.
He leaves behind a beautiful, lasting legacy and is survived by his loving wife, Doreen; his son and three step-daughters; his brother and two sisters; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a large, loving extended family. Each of them will carry forward his memory, his laughter, and the steady guidance he provided throughout his life.
