Susan Smith.

Susan was born in Comox, BC, and spent her life in the greater Campbell River area, including many

years at Stories Beach.

Anyone who knew Susan would remember her ceaseless wit, warmth, stubbornness, humour, and

unconditional love for her family. She was a dedicated supporter of her grandchildren, nieces, and

nephews, and could often be found at soccer and hockey games, dance recitals, school events, and weekly

family dinners. She was relentlessly wise, and could be relied on for advice and knowledge at any time of

day. Susan was our favorite call on the drive home, coffee buddy, and role model.

Susan is predeceased by her mother Irene, father Maurice, and brother-in-law Jim. She is survived by her

husband Barrie, son Mike (Anastasia), daughter Shannon (Cam), grandchildren Paige, Logan, and Griffin,

sisters Maureen, Lynne (Rodney), Sharon (Patrick), brother Lyle (Janice), and many cousins, nieces,

nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Susan’s family would like to extend their utmost gratitude to the Intensive Care Units at Victoria General

Hospital, Vancouver General Hospital, and the North Island Hospital (Campbell River and Region) for

their incredible care and support in the last weeks of her life. Susan’s husband would specifically like to

recognize Ian Fleetwood, Gary Redekop, Val Veerapen, and Robyn McEwen for their contributions to

Susan’s health and recovery.

Her family has decided not to have a service for Susan. To celebrate Susan’s life, drink a coffee, watch the

hummingbirds, or have a really good laugh - it’s what she would have done.
