
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of William Garnet Marks who died May 12, 2026.
William was born in Squamish, BC the middle child of Shirley and Garnet Marks.
During William's early years, the family lived in many parts of British Columbia. Logging was the family’s livelihood, and in those remote places William developed a love of fishing and could often be found by a lake or river with his rod in hand.
The family moved to Oyster River where he attend school and where he found many lifelong friends.
When William was eleven, he received a motorbike for Christmas. He quickly took to dirt biking, and that early passion grew into a lifelong love of motorcycles.
When William was fifteen, he started his logging career working In Toba Inlet for Onion Lake logging, the following year he was a hook tender on a grapple yarder, rigging back spars and such. When he was 18 years old he was employed as a hook tender on a ninety-foot Madill tower.
Western Forest Products contracted William to operate a "stump to dump" production, he continued running that business for a few years where he was able to employ family members and friends, helping their needs to attain employment.
As the logging industry changed, so did William. In his later years, he travelled up and down the island repairing vehicles and searching for gold. He developed a deep interest in gold panning and mining, and along the way he made many friends whom he helped and who, in turn cared for him.
William is survived by his older brother, James; his younger sister, Lori; his daughters, Nicole, Page, and Megan; his sons, Nick, and Joseph; two granddaughters; and many nephews and nieces.
William was a soul whose journey through life was intertwined with love, laughter, challenges, and heartbreak.
