Coach--You were a fine coach, and a good man.  Thanks for coaching me on the Reseda swim team from '70 - '72... You impacted a lot of lives, and you will be fondly remembered!

Mrs Schaeffer,

Any of us who were lucky enough to be around your husband in any capacity were very fortunate. To me he was more than "Coach". He was by far one of the most diverse and educated men I have ever met. In the Reseda cafeteria, I would sit at that back table with him and Cam, and Stone, and all the other characters just waiting for one of his stories that would put a smile on all of our faces and make the day go by just a little bit better. I consider him one of my mentors - he always called me "Rook" before he dispensed a little more piece of advice about coaching or life and I'm better because of it.
My thought are with you and your family - Coach will be greatly missed.

May he find peace and rest with the Lord our God. Until we meet again.

Coach schaeffer you will be missed but never forgotten. You were a great mentor while I was in highschool. If it were not for you I would have not made it through highschool.

I lived as a neighbor to Joel and his family for 20 years (1974-1994).  He had a big heart and was a trusted friend that I knew I could always count on in a time of need. In addition to being a genuine and decent man, he was a loyal husband, a loving father, a proud and grateful grandfather and a friend to many.  Joel was one of the 'good guys' and he will be missed.  My condolences to Nancy and the Schaeffer family in this time of grief.

To Coach & his family; my soulful condolences & prayers for you at this time.. Coach was & still is such an inspiration and a wonderful example of what a good person can aspire to be; great coach, mentor, friend, loving husband and father to his boys.  My life has been and will forever be better because of knowing you Coach... May the heavens be blessed with your smile and presence and all the roses you can now take the time to stop and smell their beautiful fragrance of love & peace...you will be miss greatly by all those you have touched... we love you Coach Sugar Bear :-)
