A beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Linda Joan Saberhagen died due to compounding complications from Covid-19, on October 7, 2021. Born in Chicago, Illinois on May 27, 1946 to William and Eleanor Newhouse. Linda grew up in the Chicago area. She married Bob Saberhagen in 1964 and followed him to the sunny skies of southern California. Linda remained in Los Angeles for the rest of her life.
Linda was an avid lover of the arts, famed story-teller, who cherished her group of friends and beloved family. She was funny, commanded a room, lived life vivaciously with her special interests. Her most prized role was mother to Bret who she raised as a single mother for most of his life. She instilled in Bret the values of life and taught him to reach for the stars. She supported Bret in school, on the baseball field, and throughout his adult life with love and kindness. She was fiercely loyal to her group of friends while hosting Ladies Night Out and her infamous Christmas parties. Christmas was her fondest holiday where she spoiled all of her grandchildren with special gifts, food, and holiday spirit. We will always remember her infectious laugh, smile, cursing like a sailor, piercing blue eyes, and her love for family. Her presence in many lives will be sorely missed.
When you think of Linda, celebrate the memories you have of her. Remember that life is fragile and short. It should be lived to its fullest.
Linda was met in heaven by her parents and her sister Gail. Her memory lives on in her son Bret (Kandace) Saberhagen, her four grandchildren: Drew (Kelsey) Saberhagen, Brittany (Jacob) Zachar, Dalton (Ches Hunt) Saberhagen, Hannah Tichenor-Saberhagen and two step grandchildren: Aidan and Layton Stolz. Her love lives on in her greatest joys in life through her great grandchildren: Sawyer and Shea Saberhagen and Lincoln Zachar.
