
Tom Charles Fewless, age 86, of West Hills, California passed away at home on
Thursday, May 22, 2025. Tom was born June 3, 1938 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He moved to
Burbank, California with his parents shortly afterward. He attended elementary school at St.
Charles Borromeo Catholic School in North Hollywood and high school at Bellarmine Jefferson
where he was active in athletics especially football. Tom attended San Jose State University
where he played football before returning back home to Southern California. He worked as an
insurance agent for Allstate for over forty years retiring in 2002.
Tom was an active parishioner of St. Bernardine of Siena Catholic Church throughout the
years he served as a program director for their junior high school religious education program, a
member of parish council, Fall festival chairperson, parish picnic co-chairperson, and an
Extraordinary Minister.
Tom contributed greatly to the community through youth and high school athletics.
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, he coached softball and basketball at St. Bernardine of Siena
School, boys and girls soccer in the West Valley Soccer League, baseball at Knapp Ranch Park
and softball for Miss Softball America / West Valley. Tom was instrumental in working with the
city to put in the upper baseball field at Knapp Ranch Park and served on the governing board
for Miss Softball America. He served as Board President and a Board Member for the
Chaminade College Preparatory Boosters Association during the 1980s. He worked with fellow
Chaminade parents to establish the Chaminade Stadium Club and build the Eagles football
stadium. He coached varsity softball at Chaminade in the early 1990s. In 1997, he joined his
son-in-law, Rick Hayashida’s football staff at El Camino Real High School, and later followed
Rick to Chatsworth High School as an assistant football coach.
Tom enjoyed playing golf, reading mystery books, telling stories, and spending time with
his family and friends. He was always devoted to his wife of sixty years, Eileen Wycherly
Fewless. Tom leaves behind his wife Eileen, two children, Michelle Fewless Hayashida and
Timothy Fewless, and three grandchildren, Richard Hayashida Jr., Emiko Hayashida, and TJ
Fewless.
A funeral mass for Thomas will be held Monday, June 2, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Bernardine Catholic Church, 24410 Calvert Street, Woodland Hills, CA 91367. Following the funeral mass will be an interment at San Fernando Mission Cemetery, Mission Hills, CA.
