Dr. Abbott Richard Miller

He leaves his cherished wife Lois Miller (nee Mendelsohn), 4 children (Linda Miller Rice, Michael Miller, Gregg Miller and Todd Miller) and their respective spouses (Kenny Rice, Rachel Berkovits Miller, Cassandra Miller and Sarah Bunkin) and 11 grandchildren (Pamela and Adam, Sam and his wife Lottie Hedden, Anna, Sarah and Jacob, Isabella and Julian and Josie, Jaya and Weston). He is the beloved son of the late Manuel Miller and Anna Borvick, brother of Phyllis Miller Weiner and former husband of the late Paula Shoolman (deceased 1968). He is reunited with many loved ones and his beloved Jack Russell Terrier Dvorak.

Abbott graduated from Brockton High School in 1949, having been selected to represent Plymouth County in the World Boy Scout Jamboree in Europe in 1947. He attended Harvard College (class of 1953) and Harvard Medical School (class of 1957), from which he graduated with Magna Cum Laude and Alpha Omega Alpha honors. Following medical school, he interned with the Harvard Service at Boston City Hospital and then served 3 years as a captain in the US Army, stationed in Saint Jean-de-la-Ruelle, Orleans, France. He then completed his residency in Radiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1964.

After residency, Abbott joined the staff at the Truesdale Clinic and Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, MA as a practicing radiologist through his retirement in 2002. He served as a Clinical Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School and as an Assistant Clinical Professor in Radiation Medicine at Brown University Medical School, educating future generations of radiology residents.

Abbott was a proud Co-Chairman of his 60th Harvard College Reunion Committee and greatly valued his tenure as President of the Brockton Audubon Society. His love of travel (including to all 7 continents), gardening, bird-watching and nature photography and self-edification was only superseded by his unyielding love of and support for his family.

Funeral services will be held at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton, MA on Thursday, May 2nd at 12 Noon, followed by burial at Plymouth Rock Cemetery, 1000 Pearl Street, Brockton, MA.

Memorial observance will be held at the home of Michael and Rachel Miller on Thursday following burial until 6 PM and continuing from 7-9 PM. Shiva will continue at their home on Friday, May 3rd from 2-4 PM and 5-7 PM; and on Sunday May 5th from 12-2 PM and 4-6 PM.
