Beloved husband of the late Norma (Berman) Hirsh. Devoted father of Stephen Hirsh and his wife Caryn Abroms, Sandra Hirsh Goverman and her husband Brad, David Hirsh, Daniel Hirsh and his wife Ruth, and Judith Hirsh Kane and her husband Jack. Cherished grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of 3. Longtime companion in later life to Marilyn Tepper.
Bernard "Sonny" Hirsh was born in Boston and grew up in Chelsea. He served in the Navy before marrying the love of his life, Norma (Berman), in 1955. Norma predeceased him in 2001. Sonny had a life-long appreciation of food and the culinary arts. He worked for four decades in the wholesale meat market in Boston, rising from meat cutter to salesman to VP of sales. His knife skills were legendary and his advice was valued by chefs throughout southern New England. To the end of his life, he was an active member of the Sharon Men’s Club and an enthusiastic and sought-after card player, valued as much for his good humor and camaraderie as his great skill.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 11th at 1:00 PM at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton, MA 02021, with interment at Sharon Memorial Park.
The family will observe shiva at the Goverman residence on Friday following interment until 8 PM and on Sunday, June 13th from 1-4 PM.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be donated to the Anti-Defamation League.
