Gerald D. “Gerry” Goulston of Stoughton MA, a dedicated public servant, entrepreneur, and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, at the age of 90. Beloved husband of the late Ruth Jane (Greaves) Goulston. Born on April 11, 1935 in Boston, to Betty and Joseph Goulston. Gerald lived a life defined by community leadership, business acumen, and a love of friends and family.
Gerry attended Bentley College where he studied accounting. He worked in the construction industry as an accountant during the post WWII building boom. However, within a short timeframe he decided he wanted to work for himself, so he purchased the family business. Page’s Grocery and Liquors in Stoughton, always referred to as just “The Store”, was his true passion. He enjoyed every day at work and loved and valued his “work family” which included many people over the years. His business success also extended into real estate, where he took pride in managing investment properties, finding genuine joy in providing quality living for residents and supporting the growth of his commercial tenants’ businesses.
Gerry was deeply committed to improving his community. He served numerous terms on the Board of Selectmen, contributed to various town boards, and was a dedicated town meeting representative. He was also a past president and member of the local Lions Club. Gerry was always active, (known as “Spider” ) he played basketball in high school, later he could be found at the Wampatuck Country Club or at the Easton Country Club, where he spent years as an avid golfer.
He came from a very musical family and thoroughly enjoyed singing and playing the piano for any audience he could find. However, Ruthie always remained his number one fan.
Some of his fondest memories were the trips they took with the Grocer’s Association, and the cherished winters Ruth and Gerry spent in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico winter escapes began in the late 1970’s with his best friend Carmen. They then recruited other friends from Stoughton, and also added Gerry’s sister Estelle and husband Joe, and Ruth’s sister Rita and husband Joe. The crew continued to grow, adding other friends they met on the beach etc., which turned into a special group of friends that kept in touch even during the off season.
Gerald was reunited in death with his beloved wife of 65 years, Ruth Greaves Goulston, who passed away on January 18, 2025. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Paul and David. He leaves behind his sister, Estelle Banks; his three daughters, Marilyn Gordon (husband Alfred), Ann MacNaughton (husband Rob), and Deena Welch; his five grandchildren, Bradley, Amy, Geoffrey, Andrea, and Isabella; and seven great-grandchildren who will deeply miss his music and forever mentoring.
A memorial service will be held at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton, at 10 AM on Sunday, February 15th. Following the service , the family invites all who knew him to join in a celebration of a full life lived, at the Portuguese National Club, 38 Wyman Street, Stoughton.
