Irwin Sidman, age 89, of Sharon passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026. Raised in Hull, he was a son of James and Sarah (Slanger) Sidman.
Irwin was the beloved husband of Joan Anne (Rotman). They were blessed with 65 years of marriage together. Irwin is survived by his wife, Joan, their children, Elinor Sidman of Largo, FL, Deborah Comeau and her husband, Kevin, of Georgetown, MA, and James Sidman and his wife, Loren, of Cranston, RI. While he adored his wife and children, his grandchildren, Chad, Kyle, Sarah and Eden, who lovingly called him “Papa”, were his world.
He also leaves behind his brother, Francis, of Lakeland, FL. He was predeceased by his brother, Gerald.
Irwin graduated from Hingham High School and joined the Navy in 1954 where he served for 2 years on the U.S.S. Orion, stationed in Norfolk, VA. He was a Telegraphic Typewriter Operator, and he would affectionately refer to his role as a “submarine radioman”. He was honorably discharged from his service, earning a National Defense Service Medal.
Irwin began his career by working with and then continuing the legacy of his father’s clothing business. Following that, he spent some time in corporate management, ultimately owning and operating his own home decorating business for 18 years. Upon closing his business, Irwin completed his career as a travel agent, retiring in 2008.
He loved to entertain, cook, travel and spend time with friends and family. Backyard barbecues with his trademark kielbasa appetizer, yard games and lots of laughs were a favorite of his. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 1 pm at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton. Interment will immediately follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon.
