Born on October 28th, 1926, Joe was the youngest son of Dora and Samuel Levine of Chelsea, MA.
Joseph served proudly in the US Army and was stationed in Korea and the Philippines. Upon his return, Joe completed his graduate education at Northeastern University and began a long and successful career with the IRS.
A fortuitous meeting with a pretty red-haired young woman at a CT resort led to a fifty-eight year marriage. Fran and Joe raised their sons, Mark and Steven, first in Sharon, MA and then in Livingston, NJ. Upon retirement, Fran and Joe moved to Greenbriar Woodlands in Toms River, NJ. Here they enjoyed nearly twenty years of camaraderie with each other and with their many friends and neighbors.
Joe brought integrity to his profession, devotion to his family and compassion to those in need. The size of his grin was exceeded only by size of his heart. Joe had a wicked sense of humor and was the best companion around for a vacation, a drive to the shore, or a talk around the kitchen table. He took enormous pride in his sons, Mark and Steven, and in his grandchildren, Mike and Rachel.
Joe is survived by his son, Steven Levine of Queens, NY; Dr. Mark Levine and his wife, Nancy of Shelburne, VT; grandson Mike of Bellingham, WA, and granddaughter Rachel of Denver, CO.
He is also survived by nieces Phyllis and Roberta, nephews Steven and Lenny, and their families.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, his brothers David and Harry, and by the love of his life, Fran.
A funeral celebrating Joe’s life will be held at the Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton, MA at 2 pm on Thursday December 26th, 2013.
Burial will follow at the Sharon Memorial Park.
On Saturday and Sunday December 28th and the 29th the family will be receiving guests in the afternoon and evening at Joe and Fran’s home at 2291 Coral Leaf Road in Toms River, NJ.
Donations in Joe’s name can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
