June R. (Milton) Kaplan of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 94 years of age. Daughter of the late Lena (Schneider) and William Milton. Loving wife of the late George (Joe) Kaplan. Beloved mother of Bonnie S. Kaplan and Howard Kaplan and his wife Jennifer of Mansfield. Sister of Marianne Milton and the late Bernard Milton, Aunt to numerous nieces, nephews and their children.
June was born in Boston on November 26, 1930, and spent her early years living in the old “West End”. She was especially proud of her time working as a secretary for John Roosevelt in New York City. The highlight of her time came when she was asked to serve as Eleanor Roosevelt’s secretary when her regular secretary was unavailable. June and her children cherish the letters of acknowledgement from the Roosevelt family. After her marriage to Joe in 1960, they maintained homes in Brookline and Cape Cod. June and Joe raised money for multiple charities, especially those benefiting children with disabilities. June was also a fierce advocate for her children, who are deaf, and was a proponent of mainstreaming children together in school decades before it was typical to do so. June’s Scottish-Irish-Jewish background was a source of pride for her as the families blended together seamlessly at a time in Boston’s history when it was not common.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 1 PM at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon.
