It is with deep sadness that the family of Maurice Iseck Rosenfield share the news of his passing on September 7, 2021. He was born in Boston, MA on August 12, 1938 and had recently celebrated his 83rd birthday and his 60th wedding anniversary with his late wife, Evelyn, at the time of his passing.
Maurice displayed an affinity for mathematics and a sharp mind for engineering. He loved to take objects apart to understand how they worked and was interested in learning how to fly a plane, curious about space and loved to fish, bowl and try his luck in the casinos of Atlantic City, Las Vegas and aboard the SunCruz ship in Florida.
Maurice grew up in various Boston neighborhoods, eventually moving to Elmira, New York, and subsequently Somerville, New Jersey for 20 years and then settling in Indian Harbour Beach, FL for the last 30 years. Maury graduated from Boston English High School and then went on to study and receive his BS in Mechanical Engineering at Northeastern University in Boston. At heart, Maury was always a Boston boy and his love for his birthplace was always on proud display. He rarely left the house without the Boston Red Sox logo, either on a baseball cap, t-shirt or jacket. His pride always showed in his dedicated support for all of the Boston sports teams. He held a special place in his heart for the Boston Red Sox and cheered them on regardless of whether they won or lost. He was ultimately a fan for life. He would often share stories with his children of going to Fenway Park to watch the Red Sox play as a young boy with his father, Nathan, and as an adult, his family knew better than to try to talk to him during Red Sox, Celtics or Patriots games!
After Northeastern, Maury enlisted in the U. S. Army as a commissioned officer attaining the rank of 2nd Lieutenant by the end of his Active Duty in 1964. He was honorably discharged in 1964 and entered the Army Reserves in which he attained the rank of Captain. During his time in the Army, he served as an army officer in the ordinance corps and was stationed at Ft. Devens, MA. While at Ft. Devens he was Post Ammunition Officer and was Ammunition and Explosives Officer in charge for all of New England including air defense missile sites. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Prior to entering the service, he married his childhood sweetheart, Evelyn, in 1961. Their love lasted a lifetime and they recently celebrated 60 beautiful years of marriage. Maury has been described by his family and friends as a true Patriot, proud to be an American and proud to have served his country in the military. Maury never lost his love for the military and became a 20+ year member of the Jewish War Veterans, Chapter 639, of Brevard County, Florida. While a member of the JWV, he served as the Post Chaplain and the Adjutant Recording Secretary for many years and for his dedication to serving as a member was awarded the Veteran of the Year Award in 2011.
After his time in the military, he began a long career as a Mechanical Engineer working in upstate New York, New Jersey and eventually being transferred to Florida. His work included management and he traveled to many different countries, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan and the Philippines. Yet, he always enjoyed going home to share his experiences with his family as they were always the priority of his life. Maury worked for a variety of companies over the years including Corningware, RCA and Harris. His work in the semiconductor field earned him numerous awards including the prestigious David Sarnoff Award for Outstanding Technical Achievement.
Maury was also proud of being Jewish and was an active participant in his local temples, especially Chabad of the Space and Treasure Coasts in Satellite Beach, Florida where he often participated in the services aiding the Rabbi. He quietly supported his wife in her role as President at their local chapter of Hadassah which earned him an award and recognition of service to their organization. In later years he volunteered at a local nursing home spending time with their residents.
Maury was a quiet, soft spoken, kind man who loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He had a huge heart and was always available to help someone in need. He believed in honesty, fairness and always doing the right thing. His steadfast presence in his children’s lives has left a huge hole in their hearts.
Maury is predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Evelyn, and is survived by daughter, Laurie (Marc) of Hanover, MA, daughter, Marissa (Carlos) of Tewksbury, MA, son, Michael of Orlando, FL, grandchildren; Trevor, Jillian and Jesse. He is predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn (Jerry) of Canton, MA and survived by sister, Estelle (Donald) of Stoughton, MA, and many nieces and nephews.
