Robert Charles Gillin of Randolph, MA, on August 7, 2022 at the age of 75. He was the loving husband of Dianne (Torricelli) for 20 years. He was predeceased by his first love Sandra (Segal) to whom he was married to for 30 years.
Born in Boston, Bob was the loving son of the late Aaron and Eva (Brudnick) Gillin. Bob was the devoted father of Jessica (Gillin) Dudley and husband Graham of Braintree, Eric Gillin and wife Sarah Firshein of Larchmont, NY, and Rachel (Bowers) LeBlanc and husband David of Seekonk, MA. He was the proud Papa to Aaron and Julia (Gillin) Dudley of Braintree, and Miles and Arlo Gillin of Larchmont, NY. He was the devoted and loving brother to the late Merle (Gillin) Sideman.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Boston State College and a master’s degree from Syracuse University. He was a Randolph Public School Teacher for 35 years and was a longtime Treasurer and past president of Randolph Education Association teachers’ union. In addition to teaching, he umpired Randolph Little League and refereed town league basketball; coached junior high and freshman softball and basketball teams; and was a camp director at Camp Satucket in East Bridgewater and programs director at Camp Fessenden in Newton. Upon his retirement from teaching, he was on the RAH Federal Credit Union Board of Directors.
Bob grew up in Dorchester and played Little League at Franklin Field Park, where he developed a passion for baseball and the Boston Red Sox — he could talk baseball to anyone. He loved going on vacations and visiting ballparks whenever he could, regularly visiting Red Sox Spring Training in Fort Myers, Florida.
Those who knew Bob knew how much he loved his family, especially his children and wife. He was a great mentor and leader with a knack for identifying and developing strengths in people. Bob was kind, fair, and valued education and encouraged students to work hard and stay dedicated towards things that mattered.
He impacted the people around him because he was loyal, courageous, and always spoke the truth. He had a strong moral compass. He believed in equality and fairness and was passionate about maintaining this for all. Bob had an incredible sense of humor and loved to joke and be quick witted.
A funeral service for Robert will take place on Wednesday, August 10th at 10:00 a.m. at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton, MA and will be accessible via livestream at https://tinyurl.com/Robert-Gillin. For the comfort and safety of those attending, face masks will be required at the service. Interment at Sharon Memorial Park.
Shiva will be observed on Wednesday, August 10th, at the family home in Randolph following interment until 7 p.m., and on Thursday, August 11th, from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m.
