Ruth G. Cantor of Canton (formerly Sharon), passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 82 years of age, with family by her side. Ruth was a devoted daughter, beloved mother and grandmother; and cherished friend to many.
Ruth was born in Brookline, Massachusetts and raised in Newton, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of the late Ethel (Buchwald) and Manuel Nizel and sister of Robert Nizel. After graduating Newton High School, she furthered her education at the Chandler School for Women in Boston. Ruth held several administrative positions in the accounting and legal fields over the years.
Her most proud accomplishment, though, was her immediate family. They brought her the greatest joy in her life. Ruth leaves behind her daughter, Leslie and her husband Carl Gladstone, and son Todd and his wife, Mary Claire Cantor. She also leaves 3 beautiful granddaughters, whom she loved beyond measure, Molly Gladstone, Ella Cantor and Abby Cantor. She also loved her grand-pets, Nessa, Rusty and Sid. Ruth cherished her everlasting friendships, some as early as when they met at 6 years old in Newton. If you knew Ruth, you also knew she loved her prized possessions, her impressive teddy bear collection. She loved to go to Cape Cod, travel nationally and internationally, see shows; such as Barry Manilow and the like. Also, Ruth drove her blue VW bug with pride with her favorite blue hydrangea flower in the little flower vase that was part of the car. This car was one of many Volkswagen’s she owned over the years.
Over the past 9 years, she lived at Cornerstone at Canton where she thrived in the community and made many friends over the years, both residents and staff alike. She knew everyone’s names and their families’ names and always asked about them. But the care and support she received over these years were above and beyond. We can’t thank Cornerstone enough for all the support to us as her children and grandchildren. And finally, Mary, Ruth’s caregiver and friend, who took care of our mom and grandma, like she was her own. Mary made her feel beautiful each and every day, was her companion for well over a year, and a true caregiver, in every sense of the word.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Monday, January 6th, 2025, at 9:30 AM at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon. Shiva will be held at Cornerstone at Canton, (Ruth’s late residence), following the burial until 2pm and then from 5pm to 8pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth’s name, may be made to the National MS Society at www.nationalmssociety.org or the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org, these were very important to Ruth, to honor her late parents.
