

Siegmar Silber of Somerville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at 88 years of age. Son of Clara (Shmulewitz) and Abraham Koppold, later adopted by Gussie and Meyer Silber of Paterson, NJ. Loving husband of Norma (Livingstone) Silber of 66 years. Beloved father of Rachel Silber of Melrose, David Silber of Arlington, and Miriam Gornish of Lakewood, NJ. Cherished grandfather of 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Brother of the late Tzvi Shdaimah and Zillah Weininger.
Siegmar was born in Leipzig, Germany on October 12, 1936. In August 1939, he and his brother Harold (Tzvi) and sister Zillah left Germany for England on the Kindertransport. In 1948, he came to the United States, where he was adopted by the Silber family, and graduated from Eastside High School in Paterson, NJ. At MIT, he met his wife-to-be, Norma Livingstone. He and Norma married in 1958. Sig received his law degree in 1969 from Fordham University. He opened a general law practice with a specialty in patent law and worked as a lawyer in Passaic County, NJ until 2013.
Sig actively supported many community and political organizations, including his synagogue, the Paterson Museum, Inner City Ensemble, KTA, and the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company. He was particularly proud of his term of service on the Paterson Board of Education.
In his 50’s, Siegmar began to seriously study his long-held interest in drawing and painting. His family and friends enjoy his many works of pen and ink and pastel. Sig and Norma lived in Paterson, NJ until 2017, when they moved to Philadelphia and then finally to Somerville, MA.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service and Burial on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 11 AM at the Chapel at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon. Shiva will be observed at the home of Rachel Silber and Scott Lefton following services.
