Barb was born February 3, 1942 in New Philadelphia, Ohio. She moved to Lake Cable in Jackson Township where she graduated from Jackson High School as salutatorian in 1960. She then attended Kent State University where she studied education, distinguished herself as a Phi Beta Kappa Scholar and graduated summa cum laude. She later earned her master’s degree in counseling from Walsh University. Barb dedicated herself to service to her community, her church and her family. She served as a teacher and guidance counselor in the Jackson local school district for over 30 years, where she was an inspirational leader, focusing on the most at-risk students. She loved working with kids, enabling them to see the best in themselves and accomplish their goals. Barb was a devoted Lutheran who took on every opportunity to serve her church throughout her life as a role model for her faith. As a mother and wife, she was fiercely devoted to her family, guiding with strength, love and a nurturing hand.
She is survived by her husband Monty Reed, her two sons Dale Reed (Taylor LoMonaco) and Kevin Reed (Perry Defiglio), her sister Debora Lowry (Ron Lowry), and her extended family, including her grandson Rex Reed. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Dale and Betty Corbett as well as her sister Susan McBride.
A visitation for Barbara will be held Sunday, January 5, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and Monday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Stephen Martyr Lutheran Church, 4600 Fulton Drive NW, Canton, OH 44718, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
