

Rev. David Porter, age 89, moved to his new home in heaven on February 17, 2011. He was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on November 18, 1921 to the late Chester and Wilda Porter. He has lived in the Canton area since 1953. Dave enlisted in the United States Army in 1940 and was deployed to the Kunming China area by the end of World War II. He was retired from Commercial Lovelace and the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church. He attended Malone College and Garrett Seminary. Dave pastored at Holmes United Methodist Church and served as Minister of Visitation at Church of the Lakes and Uniontown United Methodist Churches. He did volunteering for Aultman Hospice and later for North Canton Medical Foundation.
His survivors include his wife Maxine, his sister Lucille Kelley of Kingston, Ohio; children Connie and Tim Machan of University Hts., Ohio, Charles and Amparin Porter of Madrid, Spain and Robert and Diane Porter of Henderson, Nevada; grandchildren Joshua, Heather and Elise Schario, Marlene and Diana Sol Porter, Lake Minor and Lydia Blake; step-son Jason Machan; six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 4p.m. on Monday, February 21, 2011 at Church of the Lakes United Methodist Church, 5944 Fulton Drive NW, Canton, Ohio with Dr. Bryan George officiating. Calling hours will be 2:30-4p.m., Monday, February 21st prior to the service at the church. Memorial donations may be made in David’s name to Church of the Lakes United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice. Arrangements under the direction of Karlo-Libby Funeral Home, Canton, OH.
