
Edward John Corbett, age 89, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, in Canton, Ohio. He was born on Oct. 13, 1922, in Canton to Ike and Minnie (Schuergler) Corbett. Edward retired from Gibbons-Grable Company as the vice president of field operations, building large projects such as The Hilton of Canton, Canton McKinley High School, and Mercy Hospital. He was known for his leadership in the annual Timken shut downs. He was also a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, a member of Carpenters' Apprentice Board, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II. He enjoyed golf, woodworking, camping, boating, and having fun with his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Alice Wise Hagedorn, and best buddy, Don Sterling of Beaver Excavation. Edward is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Nehlen) Corbett; they celebrated their 69 year anniversary last June; son, Edward C. Corbett of Orlando, Fla.; son, James J. (Debbra) Corbett of Canton, Ohio; daughter, Cindy (Phil) Corbett Klempay; daughter, Kathy (Mike) Corbett Kintz of Canton, Ohio; grandchildren, Kelly Barbato, Stacey Grigsby, Leslie Corbett, Stefanie Corbett, Eddie John Corbett, Nicole Corbett Stepp, Corbett Klempay, Laura Klempay, Michelle Miller, Ryan Kintz, and Lisa Kintz; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild due in March 2012.
A Catholic service will be held Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at St. Michaels Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Friends may call Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, from 5-8 p.m. at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home. Burial will follow after the service at Calvary Cemetery.
