Born January 30, 1926, in Sharon, PA, Jean graduated from Sharon High School and later married Harold R. “Doc” Daugherty, also of Sharon. A devoted wife and mother of their 5 children, she also was a partner in Harold’s success as a sales representative for IDS, a mutual funds company. They moved to North Canton, Ohio, in 1965, where Jean continued to support Harold’s increasing responsibilities as a Divisional Manager of IDS, while also creating a loving home environment for family and friends alike. The fulfillment of her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and friend was exemplary and sacrificial. She was an excellent cook and baker and a warm and welcoming hostess to many. She enjoyed reading, playing games such as Password, keeping up with current events, philosophical discussions, brisk walks, and the beauty of nature. Jean’s unwavering faith in Jesus Christ was her guiding light and central to the way she lived her life. She was a long-standing member of Community Christian Church, North Canton, and served in numerous capacities, her most favorite as a member of the chancel choir, and she was a founder of their Prayer Ministry.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband and her son, Mark David, in addition to her mother, Gladys Frye, and 5 siblings. She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her surviving family members: Her children – Beth (David) Cavalier of North Canton, Michael (Dana) Daugherty of North Canton, Mary (Larry) Dillingham of Brookfield, Ohio, and Christopher Daugherty of North Canton; her grandchildren – David (Tricia) Whittaker of Mashpee, Massachusetts, Amanda Shafer of Green, Betsy (Todd) Casey of Green, Matthew (Katie) Daugherty of Avon, Ohio, Laura Daugherty of North Canton, Nathan (Tess) Daugherty of Columbus, Ohio, Elizabeth (Bobby) Custer of Chicago, Illinois, Christian (Krista) Dillingham of Chicago, Illinois, Shannon Irvin of Smyrna, Georgia, Sean (Molly) Daugherty of Stow, Ohio, Sarah (Dan) Raible of Ravenna, Ohio; and 17 great grandchildren – Lauren, Caroline, Carter, Harper, Annalise, Vivian, Ethan, Sawyer, Destiny, Skai, Eleanor, Cora, Kendall, Elliott, Griffin, Crosby and Lennox.
We are grateful to the wonderful aides and caretakers who assisted in helping our Mom prepare for her final journey: Altercare of Hartville, Comfort Keepers, Helping Hands, and Crossroads Hospice. We are forever indebted to Tracy Lisk for the many years of loving service she has provided to the Daugherty family.
Jean will be privately laid to rest at North Lawn Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Community Christian Church on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. The family will greet friends and family prior to the memorial service from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
