Olin M. Hoffman

Olin M. Hoffman, 93, of Dover, formerly of Jackson Township, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 18, 2014. He was born on November 12, 1921 in Dover, Ohio to the late William C. and Lena L. Hoffman. Olin was married to Edna “Jean” Renner on July 29, 1942 in New Philadelphia, Ohio. They enjoyed 72 years of life together.

Olin began his career in electrical engineering and received his first patent at the age of 35 for electrically heated ice removal apparatus for large aircraft followed by the Houndog Missile. Olin transitioned to the field of chemical engineering during which time he was included in the Who’s Who of the Society of Plastics Engineers. In the latter years of his career, Olin served as a consulting chemical engineer until his retirement at the age of 80.

Olin’s passion was airplanes and flying. The Corsair FG-1D was closest to his heart. He touched many with his positive approach to life, his kindheartedness, patience, and his laughter.

Olin is survived by his wife Jean Hoffman of Dover; his sons, David (Mallory) Hoffman and Tim (Krystyne) Hoffman of Jackson Township; his daughter, Susan Sheffer of Columbus, Ohio; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Carper and Arlene Mizer; and brother, William G. Hoffman.

Friends and family are invited to attend visitation from 11:00-12:00, followed by services beginning at 12:15 pm on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Karlo-Libby Funeral Home, 5000 Everhard Road NW, Canton, Ohio 44718.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Ave S.W., New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.

The family would like to thank the staffs of the Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County and the Inn at Northwood Village, Dover, Ohio for their wonderful, kind, and compassionate care for Olin. We have been blessed by these amazing individuals who serve daily out of love, respect, and compassion and make it possible to embrace the positive moments of each day during this life journey.
