Onalea was born in Kanawha Head, West Virginia on June 6, 1934 to the late Thomas W. and Mabel L. (McCray) Crawford. Onalea was a graduate of Buckhannon High School. In January of 1951, she married Harold Ward Harper Hoke. Harold was an Army Veteran, so during his service they lived in Germany, Okinawa, and several states in the United States. They eventually settled down in Stow, Ohio, where they raised their six children. Onalea was a homemaker and did keypunch operating as a vocation, and eventually received her medical coding certificate. She loved singing and playing her guitar. She was also a member of the Country Western Music Association. Her other passions were cardinals, and bluebirds, crocheting, and watching Gunsmoke, and Andy Griffith.
Onalea is survived by her children: Peggy Ruder, Carrie Loree, Christopher Hoke, Charles Hoke, Harold Hoke, and Mary Tranchina; eight grandchildren: Melissa Ruder Monreal, Aaron Ruder, Christopher Loree, Eric Loree, Holly Hoke, Jessie Biltz, Cassandra Biltz, and Jason Biltz; four great-grandchildren: Mason Capen, Kaleb Zamudio, Keira Zamudio, and Emberly Monreal; and three sisters: Martha Long, Norma Jean Rounds, and Mary Flo Cutwright.
Along with her parents, Onalea is preceded in death by her husband, Harold, one brother, Tommy, and two sisters, Leota and Hildred.
Calling hours for Onalea will be held at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Gary Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
