

Albert graduated from Oxford Rural High School, Oxford, Kansas, in May 1955. He then served from January 1956 to January 1958 in the U.S. Army as a Combat Medic assigned to Combat Engineer battalion in Germany, and two years as a M.P. in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Albert Married his high school sweetheart, Lou Ellen Lee, on May 29, 1958, in the First Methodist Church, Oxford, Kansas. Two sons were born to this union, Alec Gene and Eric Wayne.
Mr. Bliss joined the Dallas, Texas Police Department on December 7, 1959, Was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1966, and retired in 1987.
Albert was baptized and joined the First United Methodist Church of Duncanville, Texas. He graduated from Sam Houston State University with a degree in Criminal Justice in 1977, at the age of 40.
He and his family moved to rural Van Zandt County in 1973 and transferred church membership to the First United Methodist Church of Canton, where he and his wife taught a Sunday School class for the mentally challenged adults. He owned and operated Free State Small Engines and helped establish and operate the Reclamation Station to help disabled and handicapped people and low-income families.
Mr. Bliss is preceded in death by his wife, Lou Bliss; his parents, Elmer Eugene and Florence Edna Crane Bliss; son, Alec Gene Bliss; two brothers: Tommy and Delbert Neel Bliss (his twin); and sister, Bertha Arlene Ostrander.
Albert is survived by his son, Eric and Julie Bliss; two grandchildren: Crystal Dawn Vega and husband, David, and Chad Wayne Bliss and wife, Abby; and three great-grandchildren: Maya Faith Vega, Brody Alec Bliss and Haidyn Leigh Bliss.
