Delbert passed away peacefully in Dallas, Texas on April 9, 2024. He was born on June 15, 1941 in Canton, Texas to Homer Burney Whitton and Leo Maureen McLemore Whitton.
Delbert grew up in Canton and graduated from Canton High School. He married his one true love, Jan Brewer, on April 22, 1965. The couple raised a family in Mesquite, Texas and had 37 beautiful years together until her passing in 2002. Delbert was with the United States Postal Service for 43 years as he serviced the community as a mail carrier and later a supervisor.
Delbert enjoyed spending time with family. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. He lived to serve others in his community. Delbert’s wit was legendary! He was a loving, devoted “Grampy” who enjoyed sharing his games, stories and music (Doo Wop) with his grandsons. Delbert longed for the day that he would be reunited with his true love, Jan.
Delbert is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Leo Whitton; beloved wife, Jan Whitton; sister, Shirley Odom; brothers, Bobby Whitton and Billy Mac Whitton.
He is survived by his children: son, Kyle Whitton; daughter, Stacy Hale and husband, Steve; daughter, Christi Clark and husband, Todd: grandsons: Tyler Hale and wife, Shelby; Jacob Hale and wife, Stephanie; Jackson Hale and fiancée, Cassidy; Colton Clark; great grandchildren, Ari Charles Hale and Oliver Nathan Hale; sister in-laws, Dorothy Whitton and Susie Whitton.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Tarver Cemetery in Van Zandt County, Texas.
The family sends special thanks to David Fretwell and wife, Melissa for their many visits; to Monroe Autry and wife, Christy and Lou Autry for their wonderful meals; and last but not least, to the staff of Presbyterian Hospital – Dallas’ Neuro Trauma ICU, for their kind bedside manner given to Delbert while under their care.
