Elbert James "E.J." Sprague was born December 5th, 1923, in Wills Point, Texas. He left this Earth for his Heavenly home on February 26, 2018, at East Texas Hospice Home Place in Tyler. He was the beloved husband of Geneva Lou Groom Sprague for 73 years. They were married on May 24, 1944, shortly before he left for the infantry. He is an Honored Veteran of World War II.
In 1982, when he was 58, he retired from LTV, now Triumph Aerospace, in Grand Prairie, after being employed for 38 years. They moved to their farm in Canton where he enjoyed raising beef master cows, gardening and showing everyone else how to "fix everything or anything." E.J. was a devoted member of Wallace Methodist Church in Canton and he was a member of the Castilian Lodge #141 in Canton for 65 years. In 1994 he was the 4th person to receive the "Golden Trowel" award.
E.J. is survived by his beloved wife, Geneva, and many nieces, nephews and friends who love and will miss him.
Mr. Sprague is preceded in death by his parents, Fred Sprague and May Sprague Wade; brothers: Jerry and Hobart Sprague; and sisters: Opal Davis, Ruby Johnson and Hattie Walker.
Services will be held 10 am Thursday, March 1, 2018, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. His final resting place on this Earth will be in the Haven of Memories Memorial Park in Canton, but we know he is at peace with his Savior in the Heavenly Realms.
Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Walker, Don Johnson, Dan Johnson, Doug Davis, Richard Davis, and Jerry Teel.
