Frank Vallery Jr., also known to many as “Doc”, was born on August 10, 1944 in Natchitoches, Louisiana to Frank Vallery Sr. and Ruby Mae Boyt. He was one of 6 rambunctious boys who kept their mother on her toes throughout their childhood. The Vallery boys ran the neighborhood, finding mischief and adventure at every turn. Doc was close to many cousins throughout his life and as youngsters, the cousins took part in whatever mischief the Vallery boys led them. His brothers and his cousins would prove to be some of the best friends he ever had.
Frank joined the Army in 1962 and became an LVN, heroically saving many lives during his time in Vietnam. He worked in the nursing field throughout his 13 year military career, serving his country proudly until 1975 and retiring as an E6, Staff SGT. Frank continued his nursing career service to his country by joining the National Guard from 1981-1986 and also at various healthcare facilities until a time that he was unable to continue providing such services.
At home, he continued to use his nursing skills to teach his children necessary life saving techniques and often held many “classes” in their living room so they would know what to do if someone was choking or needed CPR, often practicing on a dummy he would bring home from work. Frank’s “classes” were unforgettable and proved to be valuable in his children’s lives in many ways. They were witness to his amazing talents and skills when Frank saved his own father from a heat stroke by doing life-saving CPR. Both in his service, and in his personal life, Frank was a true hero, a life teacher, and a man of honor.
When stationed in Korea during his military career, Frank was blessed with a son, Cary Vallery, who would later share his dreams of being a military man. Cary proved to be a great soldier and made Frank very proud in all of his endeavors. When Cary was a toddler, Frank met the love of his life, Elizabeth (“Liz”), and he instantly knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Frank and Liz married in 1970; they had two daughters, Stephanie and Rachel, and would later have the blessing of grandchildren. In all his years, Frank never missed an opportunity to tell his kids and grandkids how proud he was of them and lived for their stories of what was going on in their lives.
Frank was a proud member of the American Legion and the 40&8; and 5 of the 6 Vallery boys were also members of the 40&8. Frank was also a member of Grace Bible Fellowship Church in Canton, Texas.
