

Services for George Franklin Johnson, 82, of Canton, are scheduled for 2 pm Sunday, August 23, 2020 at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with Bro. Jonathan Leach officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery near Edgewood.
Mr. Johnson passed away August 19, 2020 in Tyler. He was born November 28, 1937 in Edgewood to Farbie and Lucy Lee Batts Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was born and raised in the Highland Community near Edgewood. He attended the Edgewood Schools and then married the love of his life, Laverne, on July 7, 1956. They lived in Dallas for eight years before moving back to Van Zandt County. He and Laverne lived in the house in which he was born. Franklin worked as an auto mechanic. He was a Baptist by faith. Franklin loved spending time outdoors, especially gardening and fishing. He also enjoyed watching Nascar racing and when he was in good health, he loved riding his motorcycle with Laverne, his son and other family. If you asked him, one of his greatest joys in life was pulling his grandchildren in a cart behind his lawn mower.
Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by his parents, Farbie and Lucy Johnson; two brothers-in-law: Bill Pecchi and Keith Erwin.
Franklin is survived by his wife of 64 years, Laverne, of Canton; son, Dwayne and Melinda Johnson of Edgewood; daughter, Sharron and John Collett of Edgewood; sister, Kat and Bob Massey of Sulphur Springs; sister, Sue Johnson of Edgewood; sister, Mary Erwin of Edgewood; seven grandchildren: Brandi and Kurt Hendrix, Zacary Johnson and Megan Greer, Joey and Danielle Vasquez, Tasha and Chris Phifer, Dylan Thiel, Bekah Roden, and Rachel Roden; and nine great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends 6-8 pm Saturday at the funeral home. For the health and safety of family and friends, social distancing and masks are required.
