Jeanette Ashworth Prentice, 89, passed away September 19, 2024 in Beaufort, SC. Jeanette is survived by her daughters Camille (Steve) Hamilton, Michelle (Josh Gibson) Prentice, grandson Bennett (Aimee) Hamilton and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Lamar Prentice, and her parents Eland Ashworth and Ruby McCollister. She was born February 15, 1935, in Wills Point, TX.
Jeanette graduated from Wills Point High School then attended Mary Hardin College. She met her husband Jerry in Austin. They married on January 29, 1960. Jeanette and Jerry traveled with their daughters while working for the internal audit team for the IRS for several years.
When the girls started school, Jeanette and Jerry settled in Austin, TX. Jeanette was involved in the PTA and served as room mother at Eanes Elementary. As the girls got older, Jeanette took a job that she loved with the Texas Medical Association overseeing their international travel program, until she retired in 2002.
Jeanette was part of the guidance committee at Westlake High School. She also taught her daughters that giving back was very important. She had them purchase gifts, wrap, and deliver to the children at the state school in Austin.
Jeanette was an avid bridge player. She even got Jerry to sub when someone couldn’t attend at the last minute. They also enjoyed traveling with their friends to New Mexico, Colorado, and Montana.
Jeanette loved her trips with grandson Bennett. After retirement, they moved to New Braunfels and built their dream home. In 2020, Jeanette was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. In 2021, they moved to their Port O’Connor, TX cabin, before moving to Beaufort, SC where their daughter Michelle lives.
In 2023, Jeanette was diagnosed with Ampullary Cancer. We appreciate the care Carlisha Chaplin, her daughter Brealyn Inabinett, and the entire medical team gave to Jeanette in her final year.
Services will be September 25 at 10:30 am at the Myrtle Springs Cemetery.
