John passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in Tyler, Texas, on May 5, 2024. He was born on July 19, 1942, in Athens, Texas, to Roy Murry and Cynthia Grace Lambert Murry.
John grew up in the Athens area and built a wonderful life in Canton. John was a truck driver for many years. When not on the road he was a friend to all. John was a giving man who found joy in helping others. John was active with the Van Zandt Sherriff’s Office Patrol and Neighborhood watch program. John spent countless years helping and participating in Muscular Dystrophy (MD) telethons, raising money for research and medical treatment. John was always dedicated to the tasks he undertook and even more dedicated to his family. His biggest joy was time with family. The best days were filled with family and laughter. He will be dearly missed, but remembered in the memories and hearts of all that knew and loved him.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Cynthia Grace Murry; daughters: Diann Wilbur and Dawna Marchbanks; grandson, Jason Busby; and brothers, Dan and James Murry.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila Murry; brother, Mike Murry and his wife, Beverly of Dallas; sons: Danny Murry and his wife, Janice of Caddo Mills, David Murry and his wife, Dawn of Tulsa, OK; daughters: Debbie Risinger and her husband, Wilson of Canton, Chris Adams and her husband, Stuart of Canton; grandchildren: James and Tracy Busby of Forney, Megan and Morgan Cummings of Wylie, John and Sydney Adams of Canton, Lottie Adams of Canton, Kayla and Corey Christopher of Canton, Jeff and Madison Goodson of Longview, Sonny and Chase Marchbanks, Joshua and Sage Murry of Tulsa, OK; great grandchildren: Natasha Mahan of Forney, Hunter Busby of Tyler, Amber Busby of Kemp, Toni and Savannah Christopher of Canton, and Madelyn Goodson of Longview, great-great-grandchildren: Kylee Martin of Forney, and Ryker Mahan of Forney: a large family of cousins, nephews and nieces; and a host of other family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
