Julia Alexandra Bass, 51, passed away November 5, 2014, at her home in Austin, Texas. Julia was born November 30, 1962, in Grand Saline. She finished Martins Mill Elementary School where she loved to play basketball. She graduated from St. Mary’s Hall High School (San Antonio) and the University of Texas. With an interest in government from a young age, Julia began working for the State of Texas, rising to become Journal Clerk of the Texas House of Representatives, a position she held for many years before her death. She was an avid reader, well-versed in classical literature as well as detective fiction, and collaborated with her sister in publishing two historical fiction books. She traveled widely and enjoyed jewelry-making and spending time with her friends and her dogs.
A consistently cheerful spirit, Julia nevertheless endured early and sustained hardship, from severe scoliosis in childhood, requiring major surgery in her teens, to cancer at age 39. Complications from chemotherapy made her final years an often painful struggle which she bore with her usual grace and humor. She will be missed as a caring sister/daughter, a devoted friend, and a patient and dedicated supervisor.
Julia is survived by her parents, Patsy McMurray Bass and Judge Bill Bass, her brother, James, sisters, Suzie and Elizabeth, God-sister Shatzie, and two nephews, Will and Zack. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Holly Springs Cemetery in Martins Mill, with visitation following at the family home in Martins Mill. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Walter Banek of Church of the Good Shepherd, Tyler, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
