

Marie was born on April 5, 1955, in Memphis, TN to Elnor F. Baker and Eugene A. Britton. In 1978, she obtained her Nursing degree in Dallas, TX. The day she became a Registered Nurse, she found her true calling, pouring her steadiness, skill and compassion into serving the lives of those in need. As a critical care and ICU nurse, she was there to meet the moment each day, and to serve as a bright light in the darkest times.
At her core, Marie was a caregiver who sought connection with others. She could talk to anyone, and if she saw a need, she wanted to help. She was also fiercely devoted to the wellbeing of animals. Her loved ones remember her vibrant spirit, her unwavering kindness, and her remarkable strength, along with the joy she brought into the lives of so many. She will be deeply missed, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Marie was preceded in death by her mother, Elnor Baker, and father, Eugene Britton. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Gunter, and her daughter, Amelia Hale.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Greenville, TX, on May 2, 2026 at 2:00 pm, followed by a reception.
