My precious mother, Mildred Baskin, went home to be with the Lord. She passed away on May 25, 2024, in Canton, TX. What a joyous reunion she must be having, to see my dad and brother greeting her at Heaven's gate.
She was born April 10, 1927, to Odie and Irene Daniel in Martin's Mill, TX. She graduated from Martin's Mill High School in 1944. She married my dad, Doug Baskin, on January 27, 1946. She lived in Houston, TX for 40 years. During that time, she was a wonderful mother to me and my brother, Mike. She devoted her life to us and created a happy and loving home. She was a wonderful role model, teaching us values, support, guidance and always unconditional love. She loved the Lord with all her heart, leading us to Christ and providing a beautiful path for our spiritual growth. For 7 years, she worked at Baylor College of Medicine for Dr. Michael Debakey, as a reprint secretary, which she was very proud of.
After my dad retired, they moved to Athens, TX where they lived for 25 years. She made many loving and lasting relationships in their community, where she was a mother to so many. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens.
After the death of my dad, she moved back to her hometown in Martin's Mill. Her greatest joy was to live in the little white house. She was a wonderful cook and got so much joy cooking her weekly family dinners. She was still cooking at 92. Such precious memories, she left for all of us. She was a beautiful woman, both inside and out. She dedicated her life to her family and made sure we never felt anything other than loved.
Surviving are her daughter, Sherry and son-in-law, Steve Barnes; brother, Jerry Daniel and sister, Brenda Breazeale; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Baskin; her son, Mike Baskin; her parents, Odie and Irene Daniel; her sister, Peggy Daniel and sister, Marky Gressett.
