Betty L. DuVall, of North Fort Myers, passed away on January 25, 2012 at the age of 78. An only child, her close relationships became family. She was fun-loving yet serious, with an appreciation and talent for wit, humor, and timely conversation. Her kindness was certain at her kitchen table where friends were nourished by her authentic cooking and her caring attention. Betty’s sense of loyalty and her open generosity to others will be sadly missed. Born and educated in Memphis, Tennessee, she graduated from Memphis State University with Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in education. Betty embarked upon a teaching career which included positions at Memphis State University, Texas Wesleyan University, Texas A&I, and George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. Her academic career concluded with an eighteen year tenure in the Nashville Tennessee Public School System. Betty was an avid traveler, reader, collector, and animal advocate. Her travels brought her to various international and domestic destinations. Before settling in North Fort Myers, she spent several years exploring the U.S. as an RV enthusiast. She happily filled her retirement years completing crossword puzzles, conquering computer challenges, enjoying her reading library, expanding her many collections, and caring for her beloved cat; Lady. Betty is survived by family member Molly Moore of North Fort Myers, along with a host of devoted, life-long friends. Donations in her memory may be made to Hope Hospice, 2430 Diplomat Parkway East, Cape Coral, Florida 33909. Please visit www.coralridgefuneralhome.com to leave thoughts and memories.
