Born in Mineola, New York, Bill was the son of the late George and Dorothy (Black) Thomas. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 61 years, Faustina “Tina” Thomas - affectionately known to him as “Bear.”
Bill began his career as a funeral director in the family business, Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home in Glen Cove, New York. He later owned Purity Candy in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, and later worked at Moore Business Forms and the Faustina Gallery. After relocating to Florida, Bill concluded his career as a bus driver for Lee County Transit.
Bill and Tina enjoyed traveling together and exploring new places. They had many fond memories of time spent in Hampton Bays, NY. He was an avid NASCAR fan and a lifelong tinkerer, especially with anything electrical. If it lit up, buzzed, or sparked, Bill wanted to understand, repair, or improve it.
Bill also volunteered for the Police and Fire Departments in Glen Cove, New York, and later for the Cape Coral, Florida Police Department.
Though he was never especially fond of exercise, Bill enjoyed participating in the Parkinson’s program at Lee Health. He deeply appreciated his caring instructor and the many wonderful friends he made there.
Bill was known for his curiosity, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. Known as the family’s practical joker, Bill delighted in playing pranks and bringing laughter to those around him. His playful spirit and warm sense of humor remained with him throughout his life.
In addition to Tina, Bill is survived by his four children, all of whom he was extremely proud of: Tamisen (Dean) Traiger, Kristen Kifolo (Robert Dietz), Kimberly (David) Stoltzfus, and Richard Thomas; four grandchildren, Allison, Samantha, Anthony, and Alexander; and long-time family member Lynn Carey. He will also be deeply missed by many extended family members and friends. Bill’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the laughter he inspired, and the love he shared so generously.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lee Health Parkinson’s Disease Program of Southwest Florida.
