Joseph Orlando Herrera, lovingly known as Joey, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 29, 2025, in Cape Coral, Florida, at the age of 29. Born on May 15, 1996, in Babylon, New York, Joey lived a life full of curiosity, humor, and an unwavering devotion to the people he loved.
Joey was, above all else, a family man. He had a natural gift for bringing people together, often through laughter—his favorite language. A true jokester with impeccable timing could turn even the simplest moment into a memory worth keeping. His sharp wit and warm heart made him someone people gravitated toward and someone they will never forget.
A man of many passions, Joey embraced life with both enthusiasm and intention. He loved video games, traveling, photography, music, cooking, educating, trivia, theatre and his pet bird, Momo. He was the definition of a jack of all trades and master of ALL. For Joey, life was meant to be explored, tasted, questioned, and enjoyed. He took pride in making things from scratch with his own two hands, never shying away from a challenge or a new skill. Analytical, strong-willed and endlessly curious, he approached the world with a unique blend of logic and creativity.
He found a love of theatre at a young age and pursued it in his college years earning a full scholarship for writing and directing in theatre at FGCU. He then earned his Master of Arts degree in Educational Theatre from New York University.
He was looking forward to marrying the love of his life, Heather D’Archangel, in June of 2026. Their bond was one built on laughter, partnership, and a deep, genuine love that was evident to everyone who knew them. Though their time together was far too short, their connection remains a testament to the kind of person Joey was—devoted, caring, and wholeheartedly invested in the people he loved.
Joey’s sudden passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were lucky enough to know him. His humor, his spirit, and his love will continue to live on in the stories shared, the memories cherished, and the lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Filippo LaForgia and paternal grandfather, Orlando Herrera.
Joey is survived by his loving parents, Orlando and Rosanna Herrera; fiancée, Heather D’Archangel; two brothers, David Herrera with his wife, Sunni, and Kevin Herrera; maternal grandmother, Nunzia LaForgia; paternal grandmother, Maria Nubia Aguilera; uncle, Rocky LaForgia and his wife, Veronica; aunt, Nubia Perez and her husband, Anthony; three cousins, Michelle, Melissa and Gina; adored nephew, Dino Orlando Herrera; as well as many friends.
A visitation will be held Sunday, January 11, 2026 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 950 Chiquita Blvd. S., Cape Coral, FL.
