

Dr. Lou D. Mauney, D.O., 65, of Matlacha, Florida passed away September 19, 2017. Born in Gastonia, North Carolina on December 23, 1951, Dr. Mauney was a graduate of John Leonard High School in West Palm Beach, Fl. He received his honorable discharge from the United States Air Force in 1974, having served from 1970 – 1974. From 1974 – 1976 Graduate of the University of South Florida, BA Biology, 1977 – 1981 Graduate of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, 1981 – 1982 Internship at Community Hospital, South Broward, Hollywood, Fl., 1982 – 1984 Medical Director – Lee County Migrant Health Service United States Public Health Service – Honorable Discharge, 1983 – 2017 Private practice on Pine Island. He enjoyed full staff privileges at Cape Coral Hospital, Cape Coral, Fl., and Lee Memorial Hospital, Ft. Myers, Fl. Dr. Mauney was a Certified Medical Director – Sunrise Cluster/United Cerebral Palsy, an inpatient facility for the mentally retarded and developmentally handicapped, Certified Medical Director – Gulf Coast Village, a skilled extended care facility and adult living facility, extended to congregate care and Alzheimer’s Unit, Diplomate of the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians, Certified in Family Practice.
A member of National Societies: American Osteopathic Association, American College of Osteopathic Family Practitioners, American College of Medical Directors, State Societies: Florida Osteopathic Medical Association, Florida Association of Family Practitioners, Florida Medical Director Association, and locally the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association District 11.
Dr. Mauney is survived by his five children, Jason and his wife Shanel, Derrick and his wife Angel, Mick, Mack, and Mitchel, four grandchildren, Elli, Aubrey, Evan, and Ava, and his sisters, Claudia Jane Fowler, Karen Joy Bennett, Terry Lee Mauney, Belinda Dawn Morrell.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, October 7th from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm at Pine Island United Methodist Church, 5701 Pine Island Rd. NW, Bokeelia, Fl. The Memorial Service will follow at 1:30 pm. There will be a Celebration Gathering following the service in the Fellowship Hall with a Pot-Luck dinner.
