Maria was born August 5, 1928 in Munich, Germany to Martin and Balbina (nee Jost) Mueller.
While working for the U.S. Military Government Occupation Forces in 1945, she met the love of her life, Albert Barber, they married in 1948, they came back to the U.S. to live in Philadelphia, PA where she worked at Frankfort Hospital.
They moved to Del Township, New Jersey, in 1954 where she worked at Haddonfield National Bank for several years and then at Haddonfield Borough Hall as assistant to the tax collector. She later became a teacher's aide in the Cherry Hill School District for 20 years.
She loved doing needlework, classical music, gardening and traveling in her spare time.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Esbensen (nee Barber) of Williamstown, New Jersey; two sons Donald (Phyllis) Barber, and Scott Barber both of St. James City; five grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and was loved by all.
