On Saturday April 3rd, early in the morning, Mary Vivian Call Miller, age 88, was granted her heart's desire-- to leave this fallen world and her earthly failing body. To be with God, our Creator and her Saviour. To be reunited with her husband and other family members who preceded her. God took her home in time to celebrate the perfect Easter in worship, praise and fellowship.
Family, even extended family, other than God, was the dearest in her heart. She met her life partner in 1952, Norman Lee Miller, who preceded her in death October 2014. There's was a fragrant love story. Together they had one week at a Chrisian conference in Wisconsin. The remainder of their courtship was by mail and phone calls since he was in the Air Force. Three times he wrote her, asking her to come to England and marry him. Finally December 4, 1954 in WV they tied the forever knot.
Mary was born in Charleston WV and was the youngest of three sisters. Though born in a Capitol city she grew up with many touches of country life; raising chickens, rabbits and fruit trees. Mary had a huge love for all things music and was blessed with vocal talent. She often sang in All-State Choirs and had solos. She also loved her song birds and flowers. Mary and Norman built a family with three children. Also frequently over the years she served as a caregiver for family injured, sick, or at the end of their lives. And that is the quick brush stroke summary of her life. Supporting her husband in his work pursuits, raising children and caring for extended family during illnesses. Retirement years in Florida they traveled much; cruises, Hawaii, Canada, England and surrounding areas of Europe.
Mary Miller is survived by her children; Carl Edward Miller and his wife Pene (Tallahassee FL), Norma Jean Miller (Cape Coral FL) and Norman Lee (Lee) Miller, Jr. and his fiancé Shelia Firestein (Chevy Chase MD). She also leaves behind four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and two sisters.
The family will receive friends/family (TBA) at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg VA. Funeral service will be (TBA) at same location. She will be laid to rest at Woodbine Cemetery.
