We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Mirzeta Ponjevic on Friday, May 8, 2026, in Fort Myers, FL. Mirzeta was born on April 30, 2026, in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Though our hearts are broken by her loss, we find comfort knowing she is reunited with her beloved husband of 44 years, Milan Ponjevic, who passed away in August 2024 - the love of her life whom she missed dearly every single day.
Mirzeta was a woman of incredible kindness, strength, and compassion. She devoted her life to helping others, always putting the needs of family, friends, and even strangers before her own. In her home country of Bosnia, she worked as an attorney, passionately advocating for seniors and fighting to protect their pensions and dignity. She carried that same caring spirit into every part of her life.
She had a beautiful smile that could light up any room and a warmth that made everyone around her feel welcome, comforted, and loved.
Above all else, Mirzeta cherished her family. She is survived by her loving daughter, Jelena Cianchetta; her son-in-law, Thomas Cianchetta; and her adored grandchildren, Alessandra Cianchetta and Dominic Cianchetta, who knew her simply as the most loving and wonderful Nana. She brought warmth, laughter, and comfort into their lives every single day.
Mirzeta will also be remembered for her incredible cooking, her welcoming heart, and the way she made everyone around her feel cared for and loved. Her home was always filled with warmth, delicious meals, and unconditional love.
Her legacy of kindness, resilience, and devotion to family will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Until we meet again, Mama and Nana. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
