With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Nelson Medina, who left us on February 27, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on August 26, 1942, in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, Nelson was a man of many talents who could build and fix just about anything. His greatest passion, however, was his family, whom he cherished deeply.
Nelson is survived by his beloved children: Hector (Crystal) Reyes and Kristina Reyes. He was a devoted grandfather to Samantha (Anthony) Mackin, Nelson (Monica) Candelario, Nate (Maxine) Reyes, Tiana (Sinclair) Velasquez, Caleb Reyes and Jayna Reyes. His love extended to his great-grandchildren: Carli Rosado, Carlos Rosado, Cassius Candelario, Maverick Velasquez, and Miguel Velasquez.
Nelson was a man of faith. He made sure his children were baptized, received their sacraments, and were confirmed in the Church, always emphasizing the importance of faith and righteousness. He often quoted scripture while striving to instill strong moral values and a love for God in his family.
A man with a generous heart, Nelson was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Whether it was assisting family, friends, or neighbors, he never hesitated to step up and support those around him in any way he could. He took pride in providing for his loved ones and ensuring they had everything they needed.
Nelson had a love for fishing, was a master at dominoes, and enjoyed watching his favorite novelas, especially María la del Barrio starring Thalía. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A service to honor Nelson’s life will be held at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, Cape Coral, on Sunday, March 16th between the hours of 12 - 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Nelson’s memory by spending time with loved ones, sharing a meal together, or doing an act of kindness for someone in need - just as he always did.
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” - Revelation 21:4
Rest in peace, Dad. Your love, faith, and generosity will forever be remembered.
