Steve was born on October 17, 1959, at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota, while his father was stationed there during his service in the U.S. Air Force. He was the beloved son of Lilly (Steiger) Rowell and Ronald Lacey Rowell, and a devoted brother to David Rowell and Silvia Singleton. Growing up as the son of a service member instilled in Steve a deep sense of pride and commitment, values he later carried forward through his own service as a uniformed member of the United States Air Force.
During his military career, Steve received extensive training in highly technical systems, including avionics, automated flight coordination and control systems, and computer network integration. After returning to civilian life, he applied these skills to the rapidly evolving field of information technology. Steve became a respected pioneer in the industry, earning steady advancement to the role of Network Engineer. He dedicated the last 29 years of his professional career to Lee Health, where he helped administer a highly complex network under stringent regulatory standards, work that reflected the discipline and precision he developed during his military service.
Steve was the cherished husband of his loving wife, Maryann Windey, and a devoted father who deeply loved and supported his six children: Michael Keith Rowell, Christopher Steven Rowell, Johnathan Richard Rowell, Bradley Owen Windey II, Ashley Nanelle (Windey) Misner, and Dana Marie (Windey) Wood. He was also a proud and adoring grandfather to seven grandchildren: Chloe Elizabeth Rowell, Keelie Marie Rowell, Oliver Lacey Rowell, Elliana Sage Rowell, Ella Nanelle Misner, Emilia Marie Misner, and Delilah Rose Wood.
Outside of his professional and family life, Steve found joy in simple, meaningful pursuits. He was an avid cyclist who enjoyed spending time on the road, as well as taking great pride in maintaining his home and yard. These activities reflected his steady nature, attention to detail, and appreciation for routine and care, qualities that defined him both personally and professionally.
Steve will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his country, his professional excellence, and the quiet ways he showed love through consistency, hard work, and presence.
