

89 of Westfield, Indiana departed this life on Saturday, April 11, 2026. Rod was born September 2, 1936 in Lewiston, Idaho to the late Ira and Juanita (Wharton) Von Bargen. He grew up on the family farm in Fenn, Idaho, and is a graduate of Grangeville High School. He enjoyed fishing and hunting the mountains and rivers near his home and never lost his spirit of the west.
Rod began his career in printing in Seattle where he worked as a print foreman for the Seattle Times and Seattle Post Intelligencer. He returned to Idaho and settled in Lewiston where he worked for the Lewiston Tribune as foreman of graphic communications. Rod then opened and operated Orchards Print Shop for many years where he earned awards and forged longtime friendships.
Rod was a member of the Jaycees, International Printing Pressman & Assistants’ Union of North America, The Washington State Pressman Council, International Stereotypers’ and electrotypers’ Union # 102 of Spokane, and GICU Local 767 of Seattle.
Rod was preceded in death by his wives, Marilue (Large) Von Bargen and Elizabeth “Betty” Von Bargen. He is survived by his sons, Duane, Mark, and Rick Von Bargen; brothers Gary & Jack Von Bargen and five grandchildren.
A celebration of life for Rod will be announced at a later date.
