Jane Ann Hughey

Jane Ann Hughey was born on October 13, 1931 in Indianapolis, Indiana, one of two daughters born to Charles Wehrel and Gladys McDonald Wehrel. Jane went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 1, 2020. Jane grew up in Indianapolis and made many lifelong friends. She graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1950. She married Norman Hughey on October 29, 1950 at Broadway Methodist Church in Indianapolis. They were blessed with one daughter, Cindy and three sons, Scott, Matt, and Brad. Jane had many interests, but nothing was more important to her than her faith in Jesus Christ and her family. Her love for dogs was not far behind her love of family. She loved her children and grandchildren and found such joy in doing special things with them. She and Norman would take the whole family on vacation in the summer and they traveled to lots of places (Michigan, Outer Banks, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dewart Lake) and many funny and special memories were created! She loved to take her grandchildren to movies and to the annual Yuletide Celebration with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. She loved flowers and gardening and she had an amazing gift for making beautiful live and artificial flower arrangements and as well as decorative wreaths. She also enjoyed spending winters in Ft. Myers, Florida and she had some adventurous travels with Norm and other friends. She and Norm took some wonderful trips together to Hawaii with Norm's army buddies. They also traveled to Australia and New Zealand. Jane also went to the Holy Land and took a trip on the Orient Express with one of her girlfriends. One of her most favorite activities was her participation in Bible Study Fellowship. She was a Bible Study fellowship teacher for many years and put her heart and soul into her preparation for these classes. She and Norman were active at Faith Church for the past twelve years and enjoyed the many friendships that they formed there. Jane is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Jean Weulfing. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Norman Hughey, of Carmel, Indiana; her daughter, Cindy Ziegler, and her husband, Tom, of Dublin, Ohio; three sons, Scott Hughey and his wife, Barb of Traverse City, Michigan; Matt Hughey and his wife, Jean, of Traverse City, Michigan; and Brad Hughey and his wife, Gina, of Carmel, Indiana. Jane had ten grandchildren, Corrie Weitzel, husband Todd; Lauren West, husband Brandon; Renee Appel, husband, Tyson; Shannon Hughey; Zach Hughey; Kyle Hughey; Justin Hughey, wife Meredith Short; Cassie Strong, husband, Andrew; Josh Hughey, wife Shanna, and Juliana Hughey. She was blessed to have seven great grandchildren; Gabby, Ella, and Liam Weitzel, Audrey Appel, Ayla and Evie Strong, and Luna Hughey. A visitation will be held at Faith Church, Friday March 6th, from 11:30am-1:30pm. A service will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Jane Hughey may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Faith Church, 9125 N. College Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240.
