Obituary of Shirley A. Armstrong
Shirley Anne “Gigi” O’Connor Armstrong passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on September 3, 2021 at the age of 90 in Carmel, Indiana. She was born in Sewickley, PA on April 15, 1931, and graduated from Ambridge High School in 1948. She is preceded in her death by her loving husband Phillip Eugene Armstrong, her sister Lorraine Colleen O’Connor Pritchard and her grandson Michael Phillip Armstrong. Shirley is survived by her brother Brian O’Connor and his wife Debbie, her two children: Phillip Scott Armstrong and his wife Margaret Nock Armstrong, and Leslee Armstrong Grace and her husband William K. Grace. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Ashley G. McReynolds and her husband Chris, Lindsay G. Lux and her husband Edward, Courtney A. Grace and her husband Dane Melton, Matthew S. Armstrong and his wife Lisa Slivinksi and four great grandchildren: Madison McReynolds, Cooper McReynolds, Simms Smith, and Henry Lux. Her cat Gypsy also lives on with Bill and Leslee. Shirley was a devoted wife to her husband of 52 years. Family was very important to her. Her proudest accomplishment was raising her two children. She loved listening to music, gardening, traveling, antiquing, and was an avid reader. Gigi also loved dancing. She was voted ‘best dancer’ by her senior class, and she was often the star of the show at wedding receptions. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 9, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Carmel, Indiana. A luncheon will follow, beginning at noon, at Harry & Izzy’s Northside in Indianapolis. She and her loving husband, Phil, will later be put to rest at St. George cemetery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
