Obituary of Tony Scott
Tony Scott, aged 70, of Carmel, IN, passed away Monday, September 6, 2021. He was the Executive Vice President of Contego International, and a beloved husband and father to three children. He was a cherished brother, uncle, grandfather, brother-in-law, father-in-law, son-in-law, mentor, partner, and friend to all. Tony was born on November 7th, 1950, to Helen Elaine and Robert Edgar Scott. He was the middle child to his older sister Linda Sponenburgh, and younger sister Becky Burke. Until he was 10 years old, their family lived in a home, fondly remembered as “The Hill”, near Nashville, TN. They moved often throughout the Midwest for the remainder of his childhood. Tony attended Watseka High School and graduated from St. Joseph-Ogden High School in 1968. In 1972, Tony married his high school sweetheart, Genalee Waters, and shortly after served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Tony was stationed in Vicenza, Italy, during the Vietnam War where he hosted a morning radio show for the Southern European Task Force. After 5 years, he and Gena returned home. In 1978, they were blessed with their daughter, Amy Elaine. Tony was always a thrill seeker who lived life fearlessly. He was a lover and collector of fast cars, a seasoned SCUBA diver, a pilot, a skydiver, a bungee jumper, and a general adrenaline junkie. His greatest pleasures in life, though, came from helping others. He often volunteered and was known to stop and help strangers if he saw one in need, even if he was running late. Tony was an entrepreneur and started companies in both the advertising and medical imaging industries. He endured failures and enjoyed many successes in his business ventures, and those who worked with him appreciated his out-of-the-box thinking and work ethic. He was a world traveler and could speak multiple languages, at least enough to ask where the bathroom was. In 1995, Tony married his wife Brenda Hanning, and together they had two sons, Lucas Anthony and Nathan Andrew Scott. Tony was an active and loving father who was always proud of his children and never seemed to miss an opportunity to share embarrassing stories about them. Tony is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Hanning; sons, Luke and Nate Scott; daughter, Amy Scott-Olson; grandchildren, Dakota, Xander, and Zannara Olson; his sisters, Linda Sponenburgh and Becky Burke; as well as a slew of nephews and nieces on both sides. He is accompanied by his beloved parents and poodle, Winky. He will always be remembered for his creative nicknames, freestyle rapping, impersonations, poetry, and words of encouragement to others. Psalm 118:5– Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free.
