Verne Edwin Williamson

He was born to the late Howard and Ruby (Carson) Williamson in rural Carmel, IN on October 19, 1937. Verne grew up working on the family farm. After graduating from Carmel High School in 1955, he went on to attend Butler University in Indianapolis, where he met his future wife, Ellen Rapp.

He and Ellen were married in Marion, IN on June 23, 1963. They eventually built a home on part of the family homestead in Carmel. Daughter Katherine joined the family on April 12, 1966.

Verne worked various jobs including dairy farming, banking, and managing his own business running a Mister Softee ice cream truck. He excelled in the distribution management of The Topics, a Carmel weekly newspaper, and then The Greater Indianapolis Area Apartment Guide.

After retiring in 2000, Verne and Ellen moved to the Smoky Mountains near Gatlinburg, TN. He worked part time delivering tourist guides to local businesses.

He was a great patriot and lover of the Constitution. He was also active in local politics in IN.

In his spare time, Verne loved finding hidden treasures at garage sales and flea markets. He was often found running a booth at a local flea market or having a garage sale at his home. He also enjoyed gardening and raising both flowers and vegetables.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ellen; daughter Katherine (Richard) Drake; three grandchildren, Ivy (Anthony) DePascuale, Everett Drake and Tristan Drake; as well as his sister-in-law Marie Williamson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Verne is preceded in death by his brother Thomas Williamson and a nephew.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 from 1-2 PM followed by a memorial service at 2 PM at Community Bible Fellowship, 231 E. 161st St., Westfield, Indiana. Private interment at Farley Cemetery, Carmel, Indiana
