John Stephen Holliday

John Stephen Holliday was born May 28, 1931 in Danville, Alabama. He passed away on July 1, 2020 in Denton, Texas at 89 years old.

He served for four years in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1952, spending part of his service as an ambulance driver. He was stationed for a year in Greenland. He worked as a machinist, a mechanic, spent many years as a truck driver, and was a frequent fisherman with his brothers, a sport he loved more than any other. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Duncan Holliday, his parents, Lola Mae Woodall Holliday and William John Holliday, his siblings Herman Holliday, Ruby Holliday Kemp, Flora Mae Holliday Shackleford, George Holliday, Billy Holliday, Mary Catherine Holliday Hodge, and James Holliday.

He is survived by his wife, Ardeena Olson Holliday; children Sharon Holliday, Gary Holliday, Marschaneil Holliday Boone Brown, and Jocelyn Holliday; brother Robert Holliday; grandchildren: Kayleen Gray, Leah Boone, Rachel Cramer, Aaron Boone, Nathaniel Boone, Adam Kelley, Kenan Boone, and Corrie Boone; and great-grandchildren: Caden Burt, Noah Cramer, Romy Cramer, Caitlin Boone, Izaiah Boone, Emmeline Boone, Kyal Boone, Taylour Boone-Burt, Jack Cramer, Benjamin Boone, Eli Boone, and Samuel Pasku.

He met his first wife, Mary Duncan, in Gloucester, New Jersey, in 1950 while stationed at Fort Dix. Later, they were married in her parents’ home in 1951. They were married for 48 years, until Mary passed in 1999. John and Mary and the family moved from New Jersey, settling in Carrollton, Texas in 1964 where they lived out the rest of their lives.

After Mary’s death, John met and married Ardeena (Dee) Olson and they were married for 20 years until his death.

When John came to the Lord in 1986, he joined the church and devoted his life to sharing the gospel with anyone who would listen. He was a member of Victorious Life First Assembly of God Church. He believed that he was leaving this earth to join his friends and family to live his eternity at the foot of Jesus in God’s home.

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 7:21
